Seán McCague, Monaghan, was the thirty-third president of the GAA.
McCague’s presidency will be best remembered for the repeal in 2001 of Rule 21[1], preventing members of the British security forces from participating in GAA activities, following the changeover from the Royal Ulster Constabulary to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.[2]
Also in 2001, he convinced the goverment to commit 76 million euros to the redevelopment of Croke Park, though in the end, only have of that money was received.
McCague is currently the honorary president of Monaghan GAA.
