Presidents of the GAA: Nicky Brennan

Nicky Brennan (born 1953), Kilkenny, was the thirty-fifth president of the GAA (2006-2009).

Brennan played hurling and football at club level with Conahy Shamrocks. He joined the Kilkenny senior team in the 70s, winning two All-Ireland Senior Hurling medals, in 1979, and 1982, having been a non-playing substitute on the teams that had won in 1974 and 1975.

After retiring as a player, Brennan switched to managing, including a term with the Kilkenny senior hurling team, who he lead to the Leinster final in 1997; his term came to an end when they lost the All-Ireland that year.

During the 90s, he served as chairman of the Leinster Council, before becoming president in 2006.
