Knights of the Whistle: Paddy Johnston

Paddy Johnston (1933-2001) was a Kilkenny hurler and referee.

As a hurler, he played for Kilkenny at minor, junior, and senior levels, playing at all three levels in 1951[1], and played on the team that won the 1950 All-Ireland minor hurling team that beat Tipperary.

He refereed the 1976 All-Ireland senior hurling final, and was referee for the All Star matches in America.

One of Paddy’s whistles can be seen in Lár na Páirce’s “Knights of the Whistle” exhibit.
