The GAA All Stars have their origins in the Cú Chulainn awards of the 1960s, which gave an award to each playing position in both hurling and football, to create a “team of the year”.
In 1971, with sponsorship from Carroll’s Cigarettes, these awards were formalised to become the GAA All Stars Awards, and a commemorative poster was published to record each year’s hurling and football All Stars team.
Lár na Páirce contains a complete collection of the All Stars posters:
- Carroll’s GAA All Stars (1971-1978)
- Bank of Ireland GAA All Stars (1979-1994)
- Powerscreen GAA All Stars (1995-1996)
- Eircell GAA All Stars (1997-2000)
- Vodafone GAA All Stars (2001-2010)
- Open GAA All Stars (2011-2012)
