Pat Fanning (1918-2010), Waterford, was the twenty-third president of the GAA (1970-1973).
Fanning played hurling for Mount Sion and Wexford, winning the county championship seven times.
Fanning’s presidency is best remembered for the repeal of the ban on being associated with foreign sports in 1970. Although Fanning himself opposed the repeal, he did not oppose the result of the vote.
Fanning’s presidency also introduced senior club All-Irelands.
