Daniel McCarthy (1883-1957), Dublin, was the seventh president of the GAA (1921-1924)
Daniel McCarthy was a member of Sinn Féin from his teenage years, and was jailed for his part in the Easter Rising[1].
He later became a TD, first elected in 1921 as a member of Sinn Féin, serving two consecutive terms, before joining Cumann na nGaedheal at its founding, serving a third term as TD[2], until his resignation in 1924. He served as a junior Minister in the first government of the Irish Free State.
While serving as a TD, he was also elected president of the GAA, the only Dubliner to date to hold the post.
