GPA Lifetime Achievement Award for Jimmy Finn

On Saturday, September 19th, Jimmy Finn, Borris/Ileigh, was presented with the prestigious Gaelic Players Association Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to hurling, at a well-attended gathering at Croke Park.
Jimmy first excelled at hurling during his schooldays at Thurles CBS. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen, when he was first selected on the Tipperary minor team. He made his senior debut during the 1949-’50 National Hurling League. Finn was a regular member of the starting fifteen for the next decade, winning three senior All-Irelands with Tipperary in 1950, ’51 and ’58. He was only 19 years of age when as captain he collected the Liam McCarthy Cup in 1951.
Jimmy, a stylish wing-back, was also named on the GAA Hurling Team of the Century and also on the Tipperary Hurling Team of the Century in the right half-back position.
