The third annual GAA Memorabilia Fair takes place in the Thurles Sarsfields GAA Clubhouse on Sunday November 27th and will have former Tipperary and Thurles Sarsfields great Sean McLoughlin as special guest.
The event, organised by Lar na Pairce GAA Museum in Thurles, has grown in stature and importance each year as enthusiastis realise that a few rare gems might well come up at the exhibition of memorabilia of all kinds, much of which will be up for sale.
The fair gives customers a chance to browse and search a large selection of match programmes, club histories, hurling, football, camogie and handball publications as well as other GAA material in the pleasant and spacious surrounds of the Thurles Sarsfields GAA Centre in the birthplace of the GAA – the clubhouse is located right beside Semple Stadium.
Collectors and sellers are invited to attend and it is anticipated that there will be loads of interesting material for them to view and perhaps invest in. Sales positions, free of charge, may be booked in advance by contacting the organisers before November 23rd.
Admission will be €3 with accompanied children free of charge. The venue has disabled access, bar facilities with tea and coffee etc. all available on site.
“This has become a very important event in Tipperary and we have visitors coming from all over the country to see what will be on display. There has been a lot of interest in this event and it is growing all the time. A lot of buying and selling has taken place, but it is also a great event for GAA enthusiasts to view some very interesting items,” Liam Ó Donnchú told The Tipperary Star this week.
For last years event, the organisers introduced a new element with former Tipperary All-Ireland winning captain Jimmy Finn of Borris-Ileigh attending as special guest. It was a move which went down a real treat and this year former Sarsfields and Tipperary great Sean McLoughlin will be the special guest. Sean will have received the Thurles Sarsfields Hall of Fame Award only a week previoulsy and many of those attending the fair will be thrilled and delighted to have the chance to meet the hurling legend and have a chat with him.
Sean was part of the great Sarsfields and Tipperary teams of the fiftes and sixties and was a household name in the blue and gold jersey.
“It’s great to have a man of Sean’s stature as special guest for the event and there will be many people in attendance who will have seen Sean play for Tipperary and Sarsfields. They’ll have the opportunity to meet and chat with him and maybe discuss games of old, or perhaps the modern game too,” Liam said.
The event will run from 12 noon – 4:00pm and anyone interested in booking a sellers table should contact Seamus J King at 087 2246245 or Liam O’Donnchu at 086 6036547. Alternatively, contact Lar na Pairce GAA Musuem in Thurles at 0504 22702.
So, don’t miss this unique opportunity to see some very fine GAA memorabilia, whether you are interested in buying, selling, or not.
