National Heritage Week at Lár na Páirce

National Heritage Week, August 22 – 30, 2015, which is co-ordinated by the Heritage Council, is the largest cultural event in Ireland. This year it is expecting 400,000 participants to attend 1,800 events across the country.
The theme of National Heritage Week 2015 is ‘Ireland’s Industrial and Design Heritage’. National Heritage Week is a part of European Heritage Days, which is celebrated in over 40 countries across Europe.
Lár na Páirce is organising an event to celebrate Heritage Week. Dr. Pat Bracken, a noted GAA historian from Moycarkey/Borris parish, is giving a talk on the state of hurling in the country in the years prior to the foundation of the GAA in 1884. The title of the talk is Not Quite Yet on Death’s Door: Hurling 1840 -1884.
In this talk Dr. Bracken will challenge the current perception that hurling was at ‘death’s door’, before the foundation of the GAA.
The talk will be held in Lár na Páirce, Slievenamon Road, Thurles, on Thursday 27 August 2015, at 7.30 p.m. All are welcome and admission, as to all National Heritage Week events, is free.
Beidh fáilte romhat.
