Christmas decorations have been on our minds this week. On Tuesday, the shop staff started to put up theirs, with the inevitable debate about whether or not it was too early to put up Christmas decorations in November. Lár na Páirce Chairman, Seamus King, was on hand for the debate, and mentioned having seen Christmas adverts in contemporary press coverage of the first meeting of what would become the GAA, in early November[1], 1884, so at least we know the argument has raged for well over a century.
Sadly, we don’t feel it would be appropriate to decorate the museum — the sight of Christy Ring in a Santa hat might be too upsetting for some — but at least the green glow of our new lights is a little festive!
